General Questions

What is Alan Meds?

Alan Meds is a technology company that brings together an interdisciplinary team of weight management health care professionals whose aim is to help people achieve their weight management goals. Alan does this by matching you to high quality, state-licensed doctors who specialize in weight management for an affordable monthly price. We also provide resources for nutrition and lifestyle changes to help customers address weight management holistically.

Who is Alan Meds for?

Alan is open to everyone regardless of gender. To use Alan, you must be:
• 18 years of age or older.
• Qualified for weight management treatment based on the professional assessment of our doctors.
• Be located in one of the states we service.

How does Alan Meds work?

Alan works in 3 simple steps:

1. Complete intake to determine if Alan may be appropriate for your needs.
2. Complete a detailed medical intake and meet with your doctor through our platform who will recommend a personalized care plan based on your goals.
3. If medically appropriate, receive your medication in the mail (depending on your provider’s decision). You’ll also be able to fulfill a prescription outside of Alan Meds while continuing to use our service to track progress with your provider each month.

Is Alan Meds a substitute for my primary care provider?

No, Alan Meds supplements your primary healthcare and does not replace it. We recommend keeping your primary care provider (PCP) and other medical professionals informed about your weight management program for a holistic health approach.

How much weight do people typically lose?

Weight loss varies based on a number of factors related to your health. Your doctor will work with you to track progress each month.

Telemedicine Questions

Does Alan Meds accept insurance for payment?

We understand that navigating payment options can be a hassle. At Alan, while we don’t accept insurance, HSAs, HRAs, or FSAs, we’ve worked hard to make our program affordable. We're committed to providing you with quality care that’s both effective and economical.

Who will my doctor be?

All doctors on the Alan platform are board certified and have deep experience in weight management. We strive to connect people with doctors ASAP and therefore cannot say who exactly your doctor will be until you sign up. After that, you’ll get introduced to your doctor including a full bio.

Where will my prescription be filled?

Your prescription will be filled at a pharmacy Alan works with directly or you can take your prescription to a licensed pharmacy of your choosing. Please note, if you use a pharmacy outside of the list that Alan offers, you will have to pay the price charged by the pharmacy you choose.

Medication Questions

What is compounded semaglutide?

Compounding is the process of creating a medication that’s tailored to the needs of an individual patient. For example, some patients may need a medication in liquid form when the FDA-approved drug comes in a tablet. Additionally, a pharmacy can compound medications of FDA-approved drugs that are listed on the FDA’s shortage list.

Compounded drugs are prepared by state-licensed compounding pharmacies that meet federal and state requirements, including quality standards. When compounding in compliance with federal and state law, compounded drugs are not subject to FDA approval and are not evaluated for safety or efficacy.

How do you ensure the quality of the GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 medications (Semaglutide and Tirzepatide) through Alan Meds' partner pharmacies undergo rigorous manufacturing processes and quality assurance measures. Each batch of products undergoes testing for sterility and potency. Our pharmacy partners also conduct quality audits on FDA registered API vendors to ensure the quality of the ingredients.

When will I see results?

GLP-1 medication can take several weeks to be effective. Each batch of medication is tested by our pharmacy partners to ensure it meets criteria and is dosed accurately. In terms of dosing, we follow the same dosing titration schedule as name brand medications (like Ozempic® & Wegovy®). If you have specific questions about your dosage or dosage amount, we encourage you to reach out directly via the Alan Meds portal!

Is compounded medication the same as generic medication?

Compounded medications are not the same as a generic version. Generic versions of medications generally require the manufacturer to apply for FDA-approval by establishing that the generic is bio-equivalent to the brand name drug. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are compounded only pursuant to a specific prescription or if a drug is listed on the FDA’s shortage list by a compounding pharmacy with the right facility and environment to comply with applicable state and federal rules required prior to dispensing a compounded medication.

Is my medication still safe and effective if it's exposed to hot temperatures during shipping?

In most cases, your medication should remain safe and effective, even if exposed to warm conditions during shipping. Studies have shown that compounded GLP-1 medication injections typically remain stable when exposed to temperatures as high as 104°F (40°C) for up to three days. If your vials feel warm to the touch upon arrival, they can usually still be used as long as you promptly refrigerate them at 36-46°F (2-8°C) once received.

However, if your medication arrives hot to the touch or you have any concerns about its condition, please contact us immediately. We will assess the situation and, if necessary, replace your medication at no additional cost to ensure your treatment remains safe and effective. Please note that while we take every precaution to ensure the safe delivery of your medication, we cannot guarantee that it will not be exposed to extreme temperatures during shipping due to factors beyond our control, such as weather conditions or carrier delays.

Your health and satisfaction are our top priorities. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our customer support team at help@alanmeds.com.

Account Management Questions

When will I be charged?

When you signup, you will be charged for your first month. If you are not approved for medication by your doctor, you will automatically receive a full refund.

After your program begins, you’ll be automatically charged each month to continue receiving medication. The specific date for your next order can be viewed in the customer portal which you can login to at alanmeds.com/login.

To prevent any interruptions in your program, we schedule billing three weeks after your delivery each month. This ensures you will have time to complete your monthly medical check-in and gives the pharmacy sufficient time to prepare and ship your medication. We strive to maintain this schedule to support the effectiveness of your program.

Can I cancel my order or account?

Yes, you can cancel based on the terms you signed up for. To ensure a smooth process, kindly pause or cancel your order before finishing your medical intake. Unfortunately, we're unable to cancel orders once the medical review is submitted and processing is underway, and you'll be responsible for the charges associated with these orders.

For more details, please review our refund policy.

Does Alan Meds require a long-term contract?

No, Alan offers month-to-month commitment options and longer commitment options to help each individual achieve their wellness goals. We hope to earn your trust as we support your weight management journey and you can cancel based on the commitment terms of your current plan.
